NEW H.Q. FOR THE DEVELOPMENT TRUST - CALL IN AND TAKE A LOOK!
Ashington Community Development Trust has moved! The Trust now has brand new office accommodation in the newly refurbished Central Arcade on Woodhorn Road - next door to the new NISA Supermarket.
As well as the Development Trust H.Q., there is also a new retail outlet - THE DEPUTY's KIST - showcasing local artists and craft-makers as well as locally produced confectionery and other items. Some of the local retailers include Ashington Football Club (Come on you Colliers!), Fourways Foods, Kenspeckle Confectionery, Olde Earth Castings, and gift items from Woodhorn Museum.
As a result of a negotiated agreement with a major book retailer, The "Kist" also stocks and sells brand new books, and if you can't see the latest bestselling title you're after - staff will do their best to get it for you within a few days - as far as we are aware that is a great offer not available any where else in the Town!
At the new office you will also be able to take part in the current consultation of the proposed new leisure and community facility planned for Ashington - this is undoubtedly a major project for Ashington and it is vital that if you have an interest, then you make it known.
In addition, the Development Trust themselves are very keen to get your ideas and views on what you would like to see happen to the former iconic Co-op ("Central Arcade") building. With community support and commitment and there could be some real opportunities to bring this classic building into use - exiting isn't it? The Trust are keen to discover and identify the level of support and enthusiasm in the town for such a project; in particular:-
- Would you be prepared to support a Community Arts Centre?
- Would you be willing to take part in any workshops to develop ideas for the future use of the building?
As always, the Trust can be contacted during office hours by telephone on 01670 854422 - but try and get along to see them at their new home and see for yourself what's on offer in The "Deputy's Kist" (open from 10am to 5pm Monday to Saturday).
It's a big venture for the Development Trust and one that the Town Council hopes will be a real ongoing success. Please take the time to have a look in and support the team in working and promoting Ashington.
