No Fair Day, but lots of other events to enjoy

It is with regret that Ashington Fair Day will not be held at the end of June as in previous years. The decision was taken on notice of planned preparatory work for the Northumberland Line taking place within the car park that would have been used for the fair. With uncertainty around the availability of the site, plans could not be put in place.

Ashington Town Council will look for a suitable alternative for ‘Fair Day’ in 2023 and would welcome ideas from members of the public. You can email or call the office, or click on the contact us link on the website.

June has been a busy month so far for events, most specifically the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Ashington Town Council supported several events in the town and has been delighted to share the photographs of folk celebrating. Festivities and projects in honour of the Queen’s 70-year reign continue, with more being held over the next couple of weeks. Follow us on Facebook to keep updated.

Ashington Town Council is a major sponsor of the Northumberland Miners’ Memorial Service and Picnic being held at Woodhorn Museum on Saturday 11th June from 10am until 5pm; admission is free, and the weather forecast could not be better. Members and officers will be around on the day and would love to hear what you think about the event.

On Sunday 12th June the Council is supporting the Ashington Branch of the Royal British Legion and Ashington Churches Together in their service of commemoration to mark Armed Forces Day, and 40 years since the end of conflict in the Falklands. Residents are welcome to attend the outside service at the Ashington Memorial Garden from 12 noon.

On Saturday 18th June, Trinity Church is hosting their Platinum Jubilee Afternoon Tea, from 2pm until 4pm.

Hopefully disappointment about Ashington Fair Day can be lightened with news of ‘Summer in the Park’ at Hirst Park on Sunday 31st July, from 10am until 3pm. The event will feature amusements, stalls, a dog show and much more.

Please support local events and keep up to date by following Ashington Town Council and other local groups on Facebook.
