Funding for Ashington Veterans & Elders Institute

Funding for Ashington Veterans & Elders Institute

Ashington Veterans and Elders Institute successfully sought funding from Ashington Town Council's small grant fund.

Deputy Civic Head, Cllr Victor Bridges was at Ashington Veterans and Elders Institute's workshop today to present the volunteers with a cheque from Ashington Town Council for £500.

Cllr Bridges commented "I am delighted to be presenting a cheque for £500 to the volunteers. They are producing some splendid items to sell for some very worthy causes".

Volunteers at the Institute produce wooden garden flowers and other outdoor decorations to hang on walls and fences, raising money for Wansbeck Hospital and SSAFA.

To the delight of members demand for these products is increasing all the time. The Institute applied for funding to help support costs for more equipment as the number of helpers is increasing and they would like to keep all the volunteers busy by providing more workstations and tools. The funding will enable them to buy equipment such as a scroll saw, a jig saw, a drill, painting tables, a heater and a range of hand tools.

Ashington Veterans and Elders Institute have recently been awarded the Queen’s Award for Voluntary Service for our efforts.
