Ashington Town Council Supports Bomarsund Welfare Cricket Club's Initiative for New Changing Room Facilities
Civic Head, Councillor Caroline Ball was pleased to present a grant cheque to Bomarsund Welfare Cricket Club, aimed at enhancing the changing room facilities at Stakeford & Bomarsund Welfare in Stakeford.
Bomarsund Welfare Cricket Club boasts a vibrant community of over 100 members, comprising four senior teams, three junior teams, and a women's team. The club provides regular cricketing opportunities for individuals across various age groups and skill levels. The proposed new changing rooms will primarily serve these teams, offering improved amenities that cater to both male and female players.
Beyond cricket, the upgraded facilities are envisioned as a shared resource for the local community. Bomarsund Bowls Club, numerous junior and senior football teams in the area, and potential future sports teams will have access to these amenities. Additionally, residents who utilize the Stakeford & Bomarsund Welfare premises will benefit from the enhanced infrastructure.
Over the past couple of years, the club has diligently explored various solutions to address their facility needs, obtaining multiple quotes from different companies. Their preferred option is to collaborate with Budget Shipping Containers Ltd., which proposes supplying and installing a 30ft x 24ft modular building. This structure will be divided into four separate changing rooms: two larger rooms to accommodate most players from both teams, a smaller room designated for match officials, and another for female players. Notably, if a game predominantly involves female players, they will be allocated the larger rooms to ensure comfort and inclusivity.
The realisation of this project promises to serve not only the cricket club but also sister clubs in bowls and football, alongside countless community members, for decades to come. At the time of writing, the club is approximately £1,500 short of the required amount to complete the project. With the support of Ashington Town Council's grant and ongoing club fundraising efforts, there is confidence that this project will reach fruition in the very near future.
