Election Update Notice - Hirst Ward

Following a review of nominations for the Hirst Ward, NCC Elections has confirmed that one candidate is no longer nominated due to being nominated in multiple wards within the same Parish.

As a result, the remaining three candidates have been elected uncontested to Ashington Town Council's Hirst Ward:

  • John Victor Allen
  • Victor George Bridges
  • Pauline Thompson

This means there will be no poll for the Hirst Ward, and electors in the Hirst Ward will not be required to vote for their Town Council representatives. Please note there is still an election for the County Councillor to represent the Hirst Ward.

Full details can be found in the official updated election notice linked below:

We understand the disappointment when someone eager to serve the community is unable to stand for election. While Ashington Town Council values everyone who puts themselves forward, we felt it was important to clarify that all nomination processes are handled entirely by Northumberland County Council's Elections Office, and governed by strict laws and procedures.

Electoral law is clear regarding candidates nominated in multiple wards. If there has been any confusion, or there is any recourse, which at this time we are unaware of, we will of course respect the legal procedures that ensure fair elections for everyone.
