Ashington Town Council Announces New Festive Lighting Partner

Ashington Town Council is delighted to announce the appointment of Blachere Illuminations as the town's new festive lighting contractor, following a comprehensive procurement process.

The partnership marks an exciting new chapter for Ashington's beloved Christmas illuminations, with plans to build upon the success of previous displays while introducing innovative and sustainable new elements to the town's festive celebrations.

Blachere Illuminations, a leading provider of festive lighting solutions, brings considerable expertise and a fresh approach to Ashington's Christmas lighting scheme. The company is renowned for their commitment to sustainability and innovation in the festive lighting industry.

The new contract focuses on delivering cost-effective, environmentally friendly decorations that will enhance Ashington's Christmas experience while supporting the town's green initiatives. Residents and visitors can look forward to new and improved lighting displays that will extend into additional areas of the town.

A key factor in selecting Blachere was their flexibility to adapt to Ashington's evolving landscape. With significant developments planned at Portland Park, Wansbeck Square, and the new college over the coming years, the Council required a partner able to work collaboratively as the public realm transforms.

Sharon Parmley, Events and Engagement Officer at Ashington Town Council, said: “The festive lighting is such a cherished part of our community's Christmas celebrations, bringing families together and creating magical memories year after year. We're so excited about our new partnership with Blachere Illuminations that we simply couldn't wait to showcase the displays – so the Christmas Lights Switch-On is a whole week earlier than usual, being held on Thursday 13th November – we can’t wait!”

Tom Walmsley, Project Manager at Blachere Illuminations, added: “We are very excited to be working with Ashington Town Council to bring a brand new, state of the art, eco-friendly, festive scheme to the town which will develop year after year in line with public realm enhancements. All motifs within Ashington’s new scheme are manufactured from recycled plastic bottles (3,327 to be precise) which is a statistic both the council and residents can be proud to display.”

The Council is committed to building on the already impressive displays from previous years and enhancing the popular Christmas lights switch-on event, which has become a highlight in the town's calendar.

Residents can look forward to witnessing the first Blachere-designed lighting scheme later this year, with plans already underway to create a magical festive atmosphere throughout Ashington.
