Ashington's Community Climate Action Event Celebrates Huge Success During Great Big Green Week

Local organisations and residents unite for environmental sustainability showcase
Ashington Town Council is delighted to announce the tremendous success of last week’s Community Climate Action event, held as part of the national Great Big Green Week campaign. The event, which took place at Ashington Market from 10:00am to 2:00pm on Tuesday, June 10th, drew enthusiastic crowds and showcased the community's strong commitment to environmental sustainability.
The free event was a resounding success, bringing together local residents, families, and environmental advocates to learn about climate action initiatives and connect with organisations working toward a greener future for Ashington.
Outstanding Community Participation
"We were overwhelmed by the fantastic turnout and the genuine enthusiasm shown by our community members," said Cllr Marjorie Chambers. "It was wonderful to see so many residents engaging with the various organisations and learning about the practical steps they can take to make a positive environmental impact."
Throughout the four-hour event, visitors engaged with council representatives about climate change initiatives, participated in family-friendly gardening activities, received expert advice on energy efficiency, and learned about local green projects. The popular free raffle, featuring eco-friendly prizes including Ninja Air Fryers, slow cookers, and gardening tools, added excitement to the day's festivities.
Grateful Recognition for Participating Organisations
Ashington Town Council extends heartfelt gratitude to all the organisations that made this event possible through their participation and dedication:
- Full Circle Food Garden – Angela, the Horticultural Officer and Sarah, provided expert gardening advice and helped visitors select plants for their home gardens
- Climate Action Wansbeck – Facilitated the innovative plant-for-pledge swap
- Citizens Advice Energy Team – Offered valuable guidance on reducing energy bills and costs
- Northumberland County Council Climate Change Team and Warmer Homes Team – Provided essential information about energy efficiency improvements and available grants for residents

Building a Sustainable Future Together
