Ashington Celebrates Community Unity During Refugee Week with Shared Meal Event

Ashington, 18th June 2025 – Ashington Town Council is delighted to report on the successful community gathering held yesterday at Full Circle Food Project to celebrate Refugee Week through the power of shared food and friendship.
The "Sharing a Meal" event, held on Tuesday 17th June at The Growing Zone in Hirst Park, brought together residents from across Ashington's diverse community to celebrate cultures through delicious food from around the world. The gathering exemplified the spirit of Refugee Week – building connections and recognising the strength that comes from our community's diversity.
The event was honoured by the attendance of several distinguished guests, including Civic Head Councillor Pauline Thompson, and High Sheriff George Farr, demonstrating the strong support for community initiatives across all levels of local leadership.
The Town Council extends special recognition and heartfelt thanks to Full Circle Food Project for organising and hosting this meaningful event. Their continuing commitment to sustainable food practices and community building makes a vital contribution to Ashington's town strengths and understanding. The organisation's work in bringing people together through food demonstrates the powerful role that local groups play in helping to grow understanding and friendship across cultural boundaries.
The free community meal provided an opportunity for residents to share stories, learn about different cultures, and strengthen the bonds that make Ashington a welcoming place for all. The success of the event highlights the community's commitment to celebrating diversity and supporting one another.
Full Circle Food Project continues to be a cornerstone of Ashington's community spirit, and Ashington Town Council looks forward to seeing what wonderful future initiatives they come up with to bring residents together in celebration of what makes our town special.
