Civic Head Attends "Watch This Space" Performance from Mortal Fools

Ashington Town Council is delighted to share that Councillor Pauline Thompson, Civic Head of Ashington, had the chance to attend the remarkable "Watch This Space" performance at NCEA Duke's Secondary School on Saturday 5 July.
The event was part of Mortal Fools Youth Theatre's innovative project exploring the theme of change and its impact on young people's lives. Over recent months, the talented young performers had been examining how change affects them and identifying the changes they wanted to see in their communities and the wider world.
The evening featured two captivating cabaret-style performances at 4:30pm and 6:30pm, showcasing the creativity and voices of local young people through audio, music, comedy, live drawing, puppetry, and film. The performances demonstrated how these young artists had been "riding the waves of change" in their own lives while exploring upcoming changes and envisioning their role as valuable change makers.
Councillor Thompson was thoroughly impressed by the quality of the performances and the meaningful way the young people engaged with such an important theme. The event highlighted how, in a world where change often happens to young people rather than with them, these talented individuals were finding their voice and actively contributing to conversations about the future.
Ashington Town Council extends its heartfelt thanks to Mortal Fools for organising such an inspiring and thought-provoking event. The organisation's commitment to empowering young people through theatre and creative expression continues to make a significant positive impact in our community.
The Council also commends the incredible work that Mortal Fools does in providing young people with platforms to express themselves, develop their talents, and engage with important social themes. Their dedication to nurturing the next generation of creative voices and change makers is truly commendable.
The "Watch This Space" project exemplifies the power of youth theatre to not only entertain but also to inspire meaningful dialogue about the challenges and opportunities facing young people today.
