New Seats Brighten Up Haydon Ward

Residents in Ashington's Haydon Ward will have noticed some smart new additions to Newbiggin Road and Black Close Bank, where five modern bench seats have recently been installed as part of a ward improvement initiative led by Ashington Town Council's Haydon Ward Councillors Marjorie Chambers, David Coyle, and John Tully.

The scheme allowed Neighbourhood Services Officer, Ryan Appleby to replace the ageing seats with more modern, sustainable alternatives, complete with armrests for added comfort.

Whilst the project was brought forward using the Town Council's Ward Improvement budget, that funding has been freed up for other priorities thanks to the generosity of Haydon Ward County Councillor Sonia Simm, who covered the full cost of all five seats through her Members' Local Improvement Scheme (MLIS) allocation.

The removed seats have not gone to waste. Two have been donated to Ashington Joint Welfare Rugby Football Club for refurbishment, and two more are destined for a new home in QEII Park, where they will continue to serve the community.
