Civic Head Joins Community Coffee Morning as Wansbeck Voices Serenade the Garden
Ashington's community spirit was on full display this weekend as the Council's Civic Head, Councillor Caroline Ball, attended a coffee morning event on Saturday 4th July, joining local residents for an afternoon of music, refreshments and celebration.
The event, held in the community garden, featured a performance from local choir Wansbeck Voices, whose singing added a festive atmosphere to proceedings. The Civic Head, wearing the chain of office, posed for a group photograph alongside members of the choir and the organising committee to mark the occasion.
During her visit, the Civic Head and Ashington Town Council were publicly thanked for a grant of £3,400, awarded to support essential maintenance work. The funding will be used to repaint the entire perimeter of the building as well as the inside toilet area, ensuring the venue remains a welcoming space for the community for years to come.
Speaking about the event, organisers said they were delighted the Civic Head could join them and thanked all those who attended and helped make the day a success.
Cllr Ball said "It was great to attend the Coffee Morning and hear about the plans for future developments. It was lovely to meet the volunteers who have put many hours into making the Institute a vibrant hub in the centre of the community."
The community garden group holds regular coffee mornings, with upcoming dates scheduled for 1st August, 5th September, 3rd October and 7th November. Further events are also planned, including a Music Night on Wednesday 29th July and a presentation on The Pitmen Painters on Wednesday 12th August.
