Ashington Town Council Launches Major Website Overhaul
Ashington Town Council is delighted to launch a completely refreshed website, built in partnership with digital specialists Widescope, bringing a smarter, faster and far more user-friendly experience for residents, community groups and visitors alike.
This isn't just a lick of paint, it's a ground-up rethink of how residents find information. Working with Widescope, the Council has rebuilt the site's navigation from the inside out, introducing fully responsive dropdown menus that work smoothly across desktop, tablet and mobile, breadcrumb trails on every page so you always know exactly where you are on the site, and brand new landing pages for every category, giving residents a clear, clickable overview of exactly which pages sit under Council, Services, Finance, Climate Change, Community, Events and more.
One of the most significant changes can be found within the Wards section, which now features a fast, interactive ward map alongside a postcode search tool so residents can enter their postcode to instantly see which ward they live in, view the boundary on the map, and find their three local councillors.
The Allotments section has also been rebuilt, with clear listings for each of the Council's managed sites (Hirst East End, North Seaton Colliery, Nursery Park and Woodhorn Road), one-click directions via Google Maps or Apple Maps, and contact details for the Allotments Officer and local Allotment Associations.
A brand new Street Scene page brings together everything from play areas and speed indicator devices to litter bins and park investment in one place, with a clear breakdown of what's handled by the Town Council and what should be reported to Northumberland County Council.
The Councillors page has been enhanced with new filtering by ward and committee, plus a search-by-name function, making it much easier for residents to find their elected members and see which committees they sit on.
The Grants and Funding section has been redesigned with a clearer layout showing current schemes, key dates for each funding round, and direct links to guidance and application documents.
The Defibrillator page now includes an interactive map and postcode search, helping residents quickly locate their nearest publicly accessible defibrillator.
Informational pages such as Ashington's History have also been redesigned, replacing large blocks of text with clearer headings, key facts and a more engaging layout.
The mobile version of the site has seen substantial improvements too, with a new dedicated navigation menu making it much easier to browse and find information on smartphones and tablets, working hand in hand with the new responsive dropdowns and breadcrumbs.
These are just some of the highlights as there are many more improvements across the site that residents will discover as they explore it.
While the majority of the redevelopment work has now been completed, further enhancements to smaller areas of the website remain ongoing.
