Ashington Town Council awards £5,898 to local community groups
Ashington Town Council is pleased to announce the outcome of its latest Small Grants scheme second round, completed in July 2026, with six local community groups sharing a total of £5,898 in funding.
The awards, each up to the council's maximum grant sum of £1,000, will support a wide range of community activities, from equipment and training to events and creative spaces.
Awarded £1,000 Funding will go towards new digital display equipment to replace an outdated projector unable to meet modern photographic display standards.

Awarded £898 Funding will support 60% of room hire costs, three coach revalidation courses, a promotional roller banner, and training equipment.

Awarded £1,000 Funding will pay for 32 weeks of room rent for an established art group providing a safe, creative space for asylum seekers.

Awarded £1,000 Funding will support Christmas, Easter and Halloween community events for residents, including decorations, activities and refreshments.

Awarded £1,000 Funding will be used to buy spraydecks for 18 sea kayaks, supporting members progressing through sea kayak safety and rescue training.

Awarded £1,000 Funding will cover pitch fees for an annual charity walking football festival, plus rain jackets and kit for members.

All successful applicants were assessed against, and met, the scheme's eligibility criteria before their grants were approved.
Cllr Lynne Grimshaw, Chair of the Finance and General Services Committee, said: "It's fantastic to see so many different groups across our community benefiting from this round of Small Grant funding. From sports clubs and community events to vital creative spaces, these awards make a real difference to local people. I'd encourage any group with a project in mind to consider applying when the next round opens in October."
This July round was the first of the year to be awarded under the maximum grant sum of £1,000 agreed by the council in June 2026. The second round under this agreed maximum will open in October.
Applications for the next round of Small Grant funding will open on Thursday 8th October 2026 and close on Thursday 29th October 2026.
