Half term in Ashington: free swimming, a Halloween trail and a planting day

Ashington Town Council has a busy October half term lined up for families. Schools break up on Friday 23rd October and return on Monday 2nd November, and there is plenty to do in between.
Free swimming at Ashington Leisure Centre
The council is continuing its free swim initiative, delivered with Places Leisure at Ashington Leisure Centre. Sessions run on:
- Saturday 24th October, 2:30pm to 3:30pm
- Wednesday 28th October, 1pm to 2pm
There is no need to book. Just turn up to get your free swim. There are 80 slots available on a first come, first served basis, so arrive early. Whether you're learning to swim or want to take it to the next level, it could be the start of the next generation of Olympians. The centre is on Lintonville Terrace, Ashington, NE63 9JY.
Trick or Treat Trail
From Saturday 24th to Saturday 31st October, families can follow the council's Trick or Treat Trail. Visit participating shops on Ashington High Street to collect a treat and a stamp on your trail card. Trail cards will be available from participating shops closer to the date.
Planting Day in Ashington Memorial Garden
On Friday 30th October from 10:00am, the council and the Ashington Branch of the Royal British Legion will plant 400 Red Riding Hood tulip bulbs in the Memorial Garden. Volunteers are welcome. Please bring your own gloves and any tools you would usually use. Children must be supervised, and refreshments will be provided afterwards.
Small Grant Fund opens next week
Alongside the half-term activities, the council's Small Grant Fund opens for applications on Wednesday 7th October. Awards of up to £1,000 are available to help support voluntary groups and organisations.
- Closing date: Wednesday 21st October
- Decisions: Wednesday 28th October
