Covering the north-western residential areas of Ashington, Bothal Ward takes its name from the historic village of Bothal on the wooded banks of the River Wansbeck — home to 14th-century Bothal Castle and a medieval church. The ward encompasses the Sheepwash crossing area and established residential neighbourhoods that grew alongside Ashington's mining heritage.
Central Ward covers the heart of Ashington, including the town's main shopping and civic areas around Station Road. Key landmarks include Ashington Library, the Council's own offices, People's Park, and the main bus connections serving the wider town. It is the commercial and administrative centre of Ashington.
Hirst is one of Ashington's most established residential communities, centred on the Seaton Hirst area to the south of the town centre. The ward includes Hirst Park, Alexandra Road, the Seaton Hirst Veterans Institute, and Ashington's Memorial Garden — a place of quiet reflection for the whole community. Wansbeck General Hospital also serves this part of town.
College Ward covers the north-eastern part of Ashington, including North Seaton and the area surrounding Northumberland College Ashington — a major further education campus serving the whole region. The ward borders farmland to the north and east, and includes Ashington Cricket Club and Ashington High School and Sports College.
Haydon Ward covers the south-western residential neighbourhoods of the town, including Haydon Road, Hartford Crescent, and the Haydon Letch greenway. Survey data consistently shows Haydon has the highest proportion of long-established residents in Ashington, reflecting its strong sense of community identity. It was also the first area included in the joint Kerb Appeal environmental improvement trial with Northumberland County Council in 2025.
The easternmost ward, Seaton with Newbiggin West covers the communities that bridge Ashington and the coastal town of Newbiggin-by-the-Sea. It includes the western neighbourhoods of Newbiggin alongside the Seaton area, giving the ward a distinctive character that combines inland residential streets with proximity to the Northumberland coast.
