Ashington Town Council is proud to support the Great British Spring Clean, the nation’s biggest mass-action environmental campaign, by hosting a community engagement event at Ashington Market on Tuesday 17 March, from 10am to 2pm.
Since its launch in 2016, the Great British Spring Clean has inspired an army of millions of passionate Litter Heroes across the country, who have pledged to collect more than 4.5 million bags of litter, demonstrating their pride in the places where they live.
This year’s Ashington event will promote the national campaign while highlighting the importance of disposing of litter responsibly and caring for the local environment. Residents and visitors are encouraged to come along, find out more, and discover how they can play their part in keeping Ashington clean and green.
Attendees will have the opportunity to speak with Jasmin from Groundwork NE & Cumbria, who will be on hand to share information about their Recycling and Waste Awareness Project.
The Green Dog Walkers scheme will also be represented, offering advice on how residents can get involved in the Northumberland-wide initiative to tackle dog fouling responsibly.
For those interested in volunteering, members of the Ashington Community Litter Project will be present to promote the group and explain how residents can get involved—whether by joining organised litter picks or heading out independently. Every small action helps make a difference.
Ashington Town Council’s Engagement and Events Officer, Sharon, will be available throughout the day to provide information on how residents can loan litter-picking equipment for their own group clean-ups, as well as details about the 400 litter bins located across the town.
Ashington Town Council welcomes everyone to attend, get involved, and show pride in their community by supporting the Great British Spring Clean.
