Age UK Northumberland has launched a new scams prevention and support programme for older people in Northumberland.

Ashington Town Council is looking to appoint a second Neighbourhood Services Officer to work in all areas of the town.  The successful candidate will be part of a small team of dedicated officers based at Ashington Town Hall and will report to the Assets & Facilities Manager.

Applicants must have experience of working in a similar direct service delivery role and should also have a good knowledge of the geographic area of the town.

Ashington Town Council are seeking volunteers, to take part in this years Great British Spring Clean 2022 Campaign.

Emotional wellbeing support for parents and carers of children and young people in the trailblazer areas of Ashington, Bedlington, Hexham, Blyth or being home schooled.

Northumberland County Council want to support more people of all ages and circumstances to walk and cycle more often and make active travel the natural choice for short journeys.

To mark National Empty Homes Week (28 February- 6 March), Northumberland County Council is highlighting the work that is taking place to address the problem of empty properties in the county and is appealing to anyone who owns or knows of a long-term empty property to get in touch. 

The final new station for the Northumberland Line rail scheme has been given the go-ahead. 

Northumberland County Council has recently implemented new traffic calming measures following a serious collision at the A196 North Seaton Road junction with the B1334 Newbiggin Road, which has led to a change in the road layout. The Stage 3 Road Safety Audit identified that there is inadequate visibility of pedestrians and oncoming motorists due to parked vehicles where a new build-out has been installed.

It was recommended that appropriate measures are undertaken to improve visibility at this crossing point by discouraging parking too close to the build-out.

The solution agreed is to introduce a short length of ‘No Waiting at Any Time’ restrictions in the form of double yellow lines on the B1334 Newbiggin Road covering the build-out on the northern side of the road which would prohibit vehicles from parking there and in turn improve visibility for pedestrians and motorists.
