Civic Head Supports Hate Crime Week

The Civic Head visited Hirst Welfare on Wednesday the 18th October, where Northumbria Police held a Hate Crime Open Day, in support of Hate Crime Week.

Northumbria Police and Northumberland Communities Together arranged the event which was open to all residents and community groups in Ashington.

The focus was on hate crime and the importance of reporting it to the police.  The police were on hand to let everyone know what hate crime is and what support the police offer victims of hate crime and how to report it.

The Civic Head met with the Police, as well as Pride Action North, based in Ashington and Teakisi, who are based in North Shields and work across the North East.

Hate crimes are crimes that are committed against someone because of their disability, gender-identity, race, religion or belief or sexual orientation. You can report a hate crime by calling 101 or online at; Hate crime | Police.uk (www.police.uk) or if you are in immediate danger always call 999.
