If you are looking to set up a new business or would like to relocate your existing business, then Ashington is the ideal setting.
Ashington is close to the Tyne & Wear conurbation and is a gateway to the historic and beautiful Northumberland coastline.
Ashington adjoins the A189 Northumberland Spine Road with links to the A1, A19 and the wider major UK road network. The A1 is now less than a ten minute drive away following the opening of the Morpeth Northern Bypass and Morpeth Railway Station sits on the East Coast Mainline with links to all major UK cities. Newcastle International Airport is less than a thirty minute drive with flights to Europe, Asia and the USA with port facilities available at the nearby Port of Blyth.
The town centre provides a range of retail, commercial and leisure opportunities and hosts a popular market every Tuesday. The town centre is seeing significant investment including the recent opening of the £21m Ashington Leisure Centre, the Station Road Regeneration Scheme and the Portland Park development. Work is on-going for the re-introduction of a passenger rail service and significant, quality, house building is also taking place in and around the town.
Ashington has a ready supply of labour as well as being home to Northumberland College who can provide quality training for employers. The town has managed workspace accommodation as well as offering quality office and industrial units in landscaped business parks.
The programme is being funded by North of Tyne Combined Authority, through the Towns and High Streets Investment Programme. Drawing on the emerging Ashington Town Investment Plan, the Ashington High Street Innovation Programme (HSIP) was developed incorporating a range of measures which will run until March 2024.
As a key component of this, Advance Northumberland will deliver Accelerate Ashington, a brand-new package of business support comprising two strands. A digital element to support existing businesses to grow, and a start-up package to support individuals looking to establish new businesses, organisations or social enterprises in Ashington.
Working alongside industry experts, the digital element will support local businesses currently trading and operating within Ashington. This support will provide funded access to the introduction of digital tools for day-to-day business activity including Digital Audits, Digital Marketing Campaigns and Website Capability. The start-up element will offer a programme of workshops covering the key skills individuals need to start and establish new businesses including organisational structure, finance and marketing.
As the support is fully funded through the North of Tyne Combined Authority there is no cost to eligible organisations. Do you want to get involved? Could your business benefit from expert digital support? Are you an entrepreneur with a new business idea? We want to hear from you!
