Tree Whips Planted in Paddock Wood

Tree Whips Planted in Paddock Wood

Forty tree whips have recently been planted in Paddock Wood.

Local businessman Mr Brian Shotton has donated the chestnut whips to complement the woodland in North Seaton.

Mark and Ryan, Ashington Town Council Neighbourhood Officers, have carried out the planting and County and Town Councillor Jim Lang came along to oversee the works.

The Town Council has made a commitment, working with partners, to plant 1,500 trees over the next few years to improve the local environment and tackle climate change.  A number of schemes around the town have been developed and the planting will supplement the existing woodland.

Cllr. Lang said; ‘We are grateful for the contribution of tree whips from Brian, which complements the existing tree provision in Paddock Wood.  I know Brian, like many others, regularly walks in the woodland and the planting will hopefully be enjoyed by many generations to come.’

Thousands of spring bulbs have recently been planted around the town by the Town Council and in the spring wildflower planting is also planned to take place in Paddock Wood as well as Peoples Park and on the Wansbeck estuary.

The tree and wild flower planting will also support local wildlife and pollinators.
