Climate Change and Environment Committee Advances Environmental Initiatives

The Ashington Town Council Climate Change and Environment (CCE) Committee met on February 27th to continue advancing environmental priorities for the community. Key actions from the meeting included:

Approving minutes from the previous meeting in September 2023

Thanking community partners Advance Northumberland and Bernicia for responding on the retrofitting and decarbonisation of properties but seeking more specific local information from Bernicia as a key social housing provider.

Committing to take concrete action to help insects and other wildlife thrive in Ashington, including creating wildlife habitat on public lands and reducing pesticide use. Ashington Town Council

Planning for an Eco-Fair for early 2025 to showcase sustainability efforts in Ashington.

Following up on the Council's tree planting efforts by contacting supporters for updates and photos to share publicly.

The Climate Change Committee continues to pursue innovative solutions and community partnership to address pressing environmental concerns facing Ashington. Through committing Town Council resources and engaging residents, the committee aims to create a more sustainable, wildlife-friendly community for future generations.
