ASHINGTON TOWN COUNCIL INVESTS £180K IN CUTTING-EDGE CCTV FOR A SAFER COMMUNITY

Ashington Town Council has invested £180,000 over five years to significantly upgrade CCTV coverage with powerful new cameras on Station Road, Woodhorn Road, and Station Road West.

“This boost to community safety underscores the Council's priority and commitment to improving the environment by providing a pleasant and safe place to live,” said Cllr John Tully, Leader of Ashington Town Council.

The project features cutting-edge technology including 24/7 monitored pan-tilt-zoom cameras providing comprehensive visibility of the area. Local contractor Asset Watch has been selected to deploy the high-tech system, cementing this initiative as a community partnership supporting local jobs.

"Our residents deserve to feel safe and secure at all times," said Cllr Mark Purvis, Chair of Ashington Town Council. "By proactively upgrading our CCTV infrastructure with these state-of-the-art cameras, we are taking a major step to reduce crime and anti-social behaviour in the Town Centre of Ashington."

The powerful new cameras will be strategically positioned to monitor vehicles and pedestrians while fully protecting resident privacy. Any cameras potentially viewing residential properties will use privacy masking technology to completely obscure the interior of homes. Strict protocols are also in place to ensure all footage is managed appropriately and only accessed when necessary for public safety purposes.

The Council would like to assure residents that their privacy is of paramount importance. The CCTV system has been carefully designed with privacy at the forefront to provide effective security monitoring without infringing on civil liberties in any way.

Inspector Wayne Daniels of the Neighbourhood Policing Team stated:

"Ashington Town Council's investment in this upgraded CCTV network will be an invaluable tool assisting police efforts. The evidence it provides can help detect and deter criminal activity, while the visible presence promotes an enhanced sense of safety."

"Asset Watch has worked with Ashington Town Council for several years now, and we really value our strong relationship," said Karl Thurm, Installation Manager of Asset Watch. "We're proud to be partnering on this important safety initiative that will make a positive impact on the community."

The full CCTV upgrade is complete following work over the last couple of weeks. Residents are encouraged to report any concerns, which along with the new cameras will allow the community to take an active role in keeping Ashington a terrific place to live, work, and raise a family.
