Ashington Town Council representatives visited local community radio station Koast Radio yesterday to view their newly installed broadcasting desk, which was funded through the council’s Annual Grant Fund.

Following a review of nominations for the Hirst Ward, NCC Elections have confirmed that one candidate is no longer nominated due to being nominated in multiple wards within the same Parish.
As a result, the remaining three candidates have been elected uncontested to Ashington Town Council’s Hirst Ward:
John Victor Allen Victor George Bridges Pauline Thompson
This means there will be no poll for the Hirst Ward, and electors in the Hirst Ward will not be required to vote for their Town Council representatives. Please note there is still an an election for the County Councillor to represent the Hirst Ward.

Ashington Town Council is taking proactive steps to enhance local public transport infrastructure, demonstrating a collaborative approach with Northumberland County Council (NCC) to improve passenger experience and accessibility. On behalf of NCC, Ashington Town Council officers, Mark Air and Ryan Appleby, have successfully installed stand information at Ashington Bus Station, providing clear guidance for passengers.
Working closely with NCC’s bus ambassador, Bill Lynch, the council is developing a strategic approach to bus shelters across Ashington. NCC will provide user information, allowing a targeted strategy that prioritises the most frequently used bus stops, with a strong emphasis on creating accessible and comfortable waiting spaces for residents. In addition to shelter improvements, Ashington Town Council officers are committed to supporting the repair and upgrade of timetable cabinets. Leveraging their local knowledge, the council will work closely with NCC to review and upgrade timetable cabinets, ensuring these crucial information points meet the needs of local passengers.

Northumberland County Council (NCC) is inviting everyone across the County to participate in an important community conversation about the maintenance and biodiversity of publicly accessible green spaces.
The ‘Supporting Nature in our Green Spaces’ initiative aims to review current grounds maintenance practices to better support nature recovery while ensuring public spaces remain safe and attractive for all users.
The survey takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. All responses will be treated anonymously and participants can request a copy of their submissions. Survey deadline: Monday, 21st April 2025.
