Last night, Ashington Town Council formally welcomed Cllr John Tully as the new Leader. Cllr Lynne Grimshaw voiced heartfelt thanks on behalf of all members to outgoing Leader, Cllr Matthew Cuthbert, for his loyal service and hard work during his term of office.

Cllr Tully took the lead at the Council’s budget meeting in January, but was formally elected to the role last night. Cllr Tully made clear his intention to lead in developing a strategic plan for the Council, and identified several priorities that he seeks to formalise and expand upon with the support of Council colleagues.

Ashington Community Litter Pickers were out in force on Saturday 18th March, along with Cllr Pauline Thompson, Cllr Louis Brown and Cllr Caroline Ball.

The Civic Head, Cllr Bob Walkinshaw visited Ashington Veterans and Elders Institute on Wednesday 15th March 2023.  

Yesterday’s budget announced £16-million pound of investment into Ashington town centre to support regeneration and investment in infrastructure.

This follows the determination of the Ashington Town Board to bring together business, public sector, and community leaders to develop an Investment Plan for the town.

Back in December the members of Cambois Rowing Club embarked on an epic journey. 

Ashington Town Council was pleased to award small grant funding of £500 each to the Talking Marra’s, Ashington Veterans and Elders, and Ashington RVS Social Centre.

On Wednesday 8th March over 30 different employers descended on Duke’s Secondary School for its annual World of Work Day.
