Ashington Town Council is pleased to share several positive staff updates that reflect the ongoing development and dedication of its team.

Ashington Town Council has launched its 2025–26 grant funding programme, with a total of £65,000 available to support the invaluable work of local community groups, sports clubs, and charitable organisations across the town.

Family event features giant whale classroom, live music, fairground rides and parade celebrating local heritage

Councillor Pauline Thompson, Civic Head of Ashington Town Council, visited Northumberland CVA on Wednesday to view the work of Northumberland County of Sanctuary and their latest art exhibition.

A community open day celebrating water sports and maritime activities will take place on Saturday, 12th July 2025, from 11:00am to 3:00pm at the riverside location featuring the Sea Cadets Building, Rowing Club House, and surrounding grassed areas with river frontage.

June 2025 - The Northumberland Line project continues to make significant progress, with passenger services now running between Ashington and Newcastle Central while construction advances on three additional stations expected to open later this year.

Ashington Town Council, Finance and General Services Committee Meeting is being held on Tuesday 8th July, starting at 6:00pm. The meeting is held in the Town Hall, Council Chamber, 65 Station Road, Ashington, NE63 8RX.

Dr Nina Purvis, daughter of Town Council Chair Cllr Mark Purvis, is currently living and working in one of the most extreme environments on Earth as the European Space Agency’s selected medical doctor at Concordia Station in Antarctica – a place so remote and challenging it’s nicknamed “White Mars.”

Following our announcement earlier in the year about the Ashington Community Woods Project Development Phase, we are pleased to confirm that the community consultation process is now underway. Groundwork North East & Cumbria will be present in Ashington Community Woods on Monday 30th June 2025, from 10am until 2pm to begin the vital work of gathering community input for this exciting enhancement project.

This initial consultation represents the first phase of the comprehensive community engagement process that will shape the future development of our cherished woodland space. We strongly encourage anyone who regularly uses the woods, along with all residents who have an interest in this valuable community asset, to come along and speak with Becky and James from Groundwork NE & Cumbria during their visit.
