Central Ward - Casual Vacancy NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that pursuant to section 87(2)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972, that Eleanor Armstrong, formerly a Member of Ashington Town Council, has ceased to be a Member of the Council, due to their resignation, and that a vacancy now exists in the office of Councillor for the Town.

Last night’s Full Council meeting proved to be a game-changer for young people in our town. Ashington Town Council has committed to turning youth ideas into reality, backing them with substantial funding and support.

Ashington Town Council is proud to announce the formation of its new Youth Advisory Committee, aimed at amplifying young voices in local governance. The committee’s primary focus will be the creation of an Ashington Town Council Youth Forum, designed to engage young people in the democratic process and give them a direct line to influence town council decision-making.

The Youth Advisory Committee will work closely with local youth providers and seek to engage directly with young people across Ashington. This collaborative approach aims to ensure a diverse range of youth perspectives are represented in council discussions and initiatives.

Ashington Town Council is pleased to announce that Gemma Hemsley has been successfully co-opted as a new Town Councillor for the College Ward. Cllr Hemsley signed her official declaration of acceptance of office this afternoon.

At the Ashington Town Council annual meeting last night, Tuesday 28th May 2024, Cllr Caroline Ball was elected as the new Civic Head, with Cllr Sophie Robinson elected Deputy Civic Head.

Ashington Town Council has a vacancy for a Town Councillor in the College Ward, which can be filled by co-option.

Anyone wishing to join the council via co-option must be eligible under s.79 of the Local Government Act 1972, and not disqualified under s.80 of the Local Government Act 1972.

The Town Council previously announced the very sad passing away of Councillor Vicki Brown. This has created a vacancy for a Councillor in College Ward, and following Vicki’s funeral yesterday the vacancy is now officially declared.

It has been declared by the Deputy Returning Officer for Northumberland County Council, that Paul Richard Wright was duly elected to the post of Councillor for the Central Ward of Ashington Town Council, following an election that took place on 7th March 2024.
