Ashington came together on Saturday 2nd May to mark International Workers’ Memorial Day 2026, honouring those who have lost their lives, been injured, or suffered illness as a result of their work.

With New Grant Fund Films Showcasing Community, Sports and Youth Beneficiaries

Friends, family, and fellow litter-pickers gathered to plant a tree and unveil a commemorative plaque in memory of a much-loved volunteer who dedicated himself to keeping Ashington’s streets clean.

The Ashington Community Litter Project, supported by Ashington Town Council and Northumberland County Council, came together on Thursday 23rd April — St George’s Day — to plant a tree and dedicate a plaque in memory of George Dobson, who rekindled the spirit of the group, who passed away suddenly in February.

During the Easter half term, residents of Ashington enjoyed the return of the annual Bunny Hop Easter Trail, organised by Ashington Town Council.

Ashington Town Council has launched its 2026–27 grant funding programme, with a total of £75,000 available to support the vital work of local community groups, sports clubs, and charitable organisations throughout the town.
