Ashington to Explore New Skate Park at People's Park

Ashington Town Council are excited to announce plans to evaluate the feasibility of creating a new skate park and scooter facility at People’s Park in Ashington.

The proposed project, brought forward by ward Cllrs Lynne Grimshaw, Matthew Cuthbert and Bob Walkinshaw, aims to provide a state-of-the-art recreational space for local youth, fostering an active lifestyle and encouraging participation in skateboarding and scootering – skateboarding having recently gained Olympic status.

Ashington Christmas Light Switch-On 2022

Six weeks to Christmas and Ashington Town Council are kicking off the festivities with the Ashington Christmas Trail.  Children are being invited to follow the trail involving 12 shops on Station Road, Lintonville Terrace, Laburnum Terrace and Woodhorn Road.

Sticker cards can be picked up from any of the participating shops and prizes for completed sticker cards can be collected at our Christmas Light Switch-On Event on Thursday 24th November 3.30pm to 6.30pm.

 


Ashington Christmas Trail

To start the Christmas festivities, all children are invited to take in the Ashington Christmas Trail.

Follow the trail from Monday 14th November 2022.  Collect a sticker card from any of the participating shops on the trail.  Once you have your sticker card find the Christmas posters in each of the shops to get your sticker.

Bring completed cards along to the Christmas Light Switch-On, Thursday 24th November 3.30pm to 6.30pm to claim a prize.

Christmas Light Switch-On
Thursday 24th November 2022 3.30pm to 6.30pm

 

Ashington Christmas Light Switch-On is taking place this year after a three-year break, it will be coming back with more Christmas Lights than ever!

Koast Radio will be opening the event at 3.00pm on the 24th, with festive music, interviews and games all broadcast live throughout the event.

Special Guest Sarah Rayson who plays Floss in CBBC popular TV series The Dumping Ground will be helping Santa and the Civic Head, Cllr Bob Walkinshaw switch on the lights at 6.00pm.

There are a host of free activities planned for everyone to take part in and have a go.  Come along and have fun with all of the volunteers offering the following activities.

* Cambois Rowing Club, Row to North Pole Challenge, test your fitness on the rowing machines and help achieve the target of                            

* The Sewing Machine Guy, have a go at making felt fairies & fairy houses

* Ashington Life Centre, have a go at decoration paper baubles and writing out a wish to hang on the Christmas Wishes Tree

* Ashington Family Hub, have a go at making Reindeer Food to take home for Christmas Eve

* Co-op, visit the staff from the Co-op for free mince pies, sweets, and drinks

* Ashington Hirst Running Club, have a go at another festive fitness exercise, with the chance to win one of three £20 Asda vouchers

* Ashington Veterans & Elders Institute, have kits with trees and crafty bits to decorate to take away and make your own tree decorations, and you can also have a go at guessing the value of the hamper

* Ashington Asda, get your free hamper raffle tickets from the staff from Asda

* Friends of Ashington Community Woods, have a go at making reindeer tree decorations & Christmas table centre decorations

* Ashington Girlguiding Division, have a go at making Christmas tealight holders with the Girl Guides 

* RSV Social Care, Cakes and biscuits

* Northumberland Community Bank, have a go at a Festive Fishing game and get some debt advice at the same time with the Northumberland Community Bank

* William Purves Funeral Directors, send a heavenly message to loved ones with the Memorial Christmas tree, which will be placed in the funeral home after the event in the run up to Christmas

* YMCA Northumberland, get your ticket for a free toy sack raffle, and enjoy a chocolate marshmallows from the YMCA

* Ashington Town Council, pick up your prize from Town Councillors with your completed Christmas Trail sticker cards

* ESCAPE Family Support, have fun on the free tombola with ESCAPE Family Support

* Full Circle Food Project, get creative making Santa and Reindeer masks with the Full Circle Food Project

Morpeth Lions will be accompanying Santa and his sleigh at the event, come and say hello and get a picture.

Northumbria Fire Service and Northumbria Police will be there with vehicles to view and take photos and chat with the Officers.

We will be open from 2pm and we will be selling a festive hot chocolate to take out with cream and all the trimmings with marshmallows too for £2 ????❤️????????????⛄️❄️. Soup ???? will also be available to take out for £2.
