The holiday season will officially kick off in Ashington this week with the return of the town’s anticipated Christmas Light Switch-On event on Thursday, November 30th from 3:30pm to 6:30pm.

Councillor Lawrence Henderson, of Ashington Town Council, sadly passed away on Sunday 19th November 2023.

In Ashington we have a serious issue with waste disposal and fly tipping, with over 40 fly-tips being removed by Rapid Response each week, 72,840kg collected from the streets from April to end of October. This is a reactive response to illegal fly-tipping, not a service. It is delivered by Northumberland County Council and paid for by Ashington Town Council, via your precept.

The seating area at Laburnum Terrace has undergone recent enhancement works to upgrade the amenities and appearance of this public space frequently used by Ashington residents.

The Community Health Champions have continued to grow and make an impact since  April 2023. So far, 26 local volunteers have become Champions after completing training to help share health and wellbeing information with others.

Ashington Town Council is seeking a dedicated Allotment Officer to join our team and support the Council in its statutory duty to provide allotments. We have 8 sites across Ashington with approximately 800 allotment plots that require oversight. You will be involved in tenancy management, inspecting plots, supporting associations, and finding solutions to improve our provision. Strong communication and relationship skills are essential.

This past Remembrance Sunday saw hundreds of Ashington residents turn out to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice for their country.

Ashington will be aglow with colour next spring thanks to the planting of thousands of bulbs around town. 

Next Friday, November 17th is BBC Children In Need day, and Ashington is set to show its community spirit at a special fundraising event in the Carpark Asda Ashington, organised by Amanda Sheldon, Asda’s Community Champion.
