ST GEORGE’S SAINTLY WINDOWS
As St George’s day has come and gone, and the St George’s day parade was a huge success with hundreds turning up on Ashington main street, we have had some of the local shops decorate their windows in celebration for the patron saint of England.
Civic Head Councillor Victor Bridges commended the effort put forward by everyone involved, and says "The windows were this year were brilliant, and the show of community has been so nice to see."
There was a valiant effort for all involved, but 3 of the stores went so above and beyond that even dragons cannot reach that height.
SAINT GEORGE’S LITTLE TEA BREAK
Coming first in our St George’s day window competition was The Little Tea Room on Lintonville Terrace.
The mural to St George in the style of 18th century English art depicts the two owners on either side, and St George on his trusty steed, rearing up to slay the dragon.
However, the dragon doesn’t want to fight, he wants to pop into The Little Tea Room to sample their delicious coffee and amazing cakes!
TONY JOSHUA COUTURES' KNIGHTLY GARMENTS
Coming in second is Tony Joshua Couture on Lintonville terrace with a stunning display of garments and a gorgeous backdrop to tie it all together.
Going with the theme of garments, which is what Tony is famously known for, he has put together a very strong contender for the Sainthood of the window competition.
We at Ashington Town Council just hope that George doesn’t pop in to armour up for the dragon next door at the Little Tea Room.
THE BALDY BUTCHERS BRILLIANT COMMUNITY ART
In third place was The Baldy Butcher’s excellent community effort. They contacted the local schools and asked for the children to design and draw their display for St George.
The children delivered to the highest standard, and The Baldy Butcher proudly displayed their art on their window for all to see.
A huge well done and a giant thank you from us at Ashington Town Council for all involved in this stellar display of community.
A huge thank you to the children and the teachers at Central Primary School for their participation.
The windows displayed this year were some of the best we’ve ever seen, especially for St George’s Day and we thank everyone who put together a display this year for the celebrations.
Please see below pictures of the windows we managed to get for this year.
