Stay Warm and Safe: Free Home Improvements and Gas Safety Services for Eligible Northumberland Residents
Northumberland County Council is offering free energy-saving home improvements for eligible residents. The scheme targets homeowners and private renters with low-income households or properties with poor energy efficiency (EPC ratings D-G).
Potential improvements include:
- Insulation (floor, loft, wall)
- Low carbon heating systems
- Air source heat pumps
- Solar panels
To be eligible, applicants must:
- Live in Northumberland
- Have household income below specified thresholds
- Own or rent a home with an E, F, or G energy rating
- Meet specific benefit or income criteria

Northumberland County Council is also offereing Gas Safety Services: The Council is working with the Gas Safe Charity to provide critical home safety services. Grants of up to £500 can be accessed per household per year.
Services include:
- Gas safety checks
- Boiler repairs and replacements
- Servicing gas appliances and equipment
- Covering gas cookers, fires, pipework, meters, and water heaters
Eligibility:
- 60 years or older with low income or disability
- Under 60 with low income or disability
- Those considered exceptionally vulnerable
