A SAFER ASHINGTON THIS FESTIVE SEASON: CELEBRATING THE SUCCESS OF CCTV INVESTMENT

Ashington Town Council’s bold investment in state-of-the-art CCTV has proven instrumental in enhancing community safety, which we hope will be even more welcomed during the festive season. Installed in April 2024, the system, managed by local contractor Asset Watch, is already yielding results, helping Northumbria Police and other enforcement agencies detect and deter crime while fostering a stronger sense of safety.

“This CCTV network underscores the Council’s commitment to making Ashington a safe and welcoming community,” said Cllr Mark Purvis, Chair of Ashington Town Council. “As we enjoy the festive season, we hope residents feel reassured knowing this system is in place to protect them.”

The cutting-edge cameras, strategically positioned across the town, offer 24/7 monitored coverage and utilise advanced technology to ensure privacy protection while maintaining effective surveillance. Regular reviews of footage and close collaboration with enforcement partners ensure the system is optimised for crime prevention and community safety.

Inspector Wayne Daniels of the Neighbourhood Policing Team commented:

“Ashington Town Council’s decision to invest in this advanced CCTV network has been vital in supporting police efforts. Its role in detecting criminal activity is invaluable, and the system continues to be a visible deterrent.”

Asset Watch’s commitment to excellence has also earned praise. “We’re proud to partner with Ashington Town Council on this transformative project,” said Karl Thurm, Installation Manager at Asset Watch. “It’s a privilege to contribute to a safer community, especially during such an important time of year.”

Since its launch, the system has garnered attention from neighbouring councils, serving as a model for effective public safety investment. “This project highlights the importance of choosing the right contractor and maintaining robust collaboration with partners,” added Sarah Eden, Executive Officer at Ashington Town Council. “We’re delighted to see it making a difference.”

Ashington Town Council's significant investment is now complemented by Project Shield, a comprehensive safety initiative funded by Police and Crime Commissioner Susan Dungworth's office.

Project Shield brings a multi-faceted approach to community safety, with targetted activity, enhanced engagement with local people and organisations, and preventive work. The Project Shield Team has quickly formed partnerships with local organisations in Ashington, contributing significantly to the effectiveness of the town's safety strategies, and working effectively with young people..

As the festive season unfolds, Ashington Town Council encourages residents to report any concerns in the usual way, confident that the CCTV system and will continue to support enforcement and engagement efforts and foster a safer, more secure community.
