Local Designer Creates Magical Christmas-Wedding Fusion Display, Wins Top Window Honour from Ashington Town Council

It's that time of year again in Ashington when local shops and traders decorate their front windows with a Christmas theme around Ashington High Street to celebrate the holiday season.
This year, there are lots of shops with Christmas window displays and Ashington Town Council have got involved again with a friendly competition. We've awarded three prizes for the best dressed windows in our annual Christmas Window Competition. This recognises the hard work from our local traders, but we know it is all about taking part and spreading good cheer.
It has been a very difficult choice for Civic Head, Cllr Caroline Ball, who had the honour of visiting and deciding who would receive first, second, and third prizes.
“They're all so lovely, it's been a very difficult decision as many of the windows this year have been absolutely stunning, and I wish they could all win,” said Cllr Caroline Ball.
The prizes which include a chocolate hamper, and festive treats were put together by Ashington Town Council. The amazing efforts which can be seen in the photographs and if you have a wander down the high street which range from the vintage Christmas display at The Salvation Army, to the Christmas bride at Tony Joshua Couture: all very festive and adding to the excitement of the town.
The shops that have taken part in the window competition this year is listed below. There may be other festive windows, but those listed joined the Council's competition:
- Scope
- The Salvation Army
- Sense
- CeX
- The Little Tearoom
- Sweet Memories Sweet Shop
- Tony Joshua Couture
- Mind, Body and Spirit
The winners of this year are:
First Place: Tony Joshua Couture.
Tony has done absolutely breathtaking job on his display this year, with the dress being incorporated into the display, complete with parts of the Christmas tree built into the dress and flowers and decorations to complete it. The extras around the dress, such as the presents, the little teddy, Christmas decorations and the snow scene really bring it all together to complete the wintery Christmas theme.
Second Place: The Little Tearoom
The Little Tearoom once again filled us with awe at their window display, this time showing off a wonderful colliery scene complete with mining wheel in the background, spanning across not one, but three of their windows. Made with spray on snow, it adds to the lovely display of the winter scene of an Ashington street.
Third Place: Sweet Memories Sweet Shop
Keeping with the snowy theme of the Christmas month, Sweet Memories have decorated both of their windows with a lovely snowy display of Christmas. Including houses, Santa, and his Elves and a little reindeer scene on their rightmost window.
With the very successful Christmas Light Switch-On, the Christmas Trail and the Christmas Window Competition, it has been a lovely festive month around Ashington High Street and we at Ashington Town Council wish you all a very merry Christmas, and a fantastic new year.
