Local Scout Group Transforms Community with Successful Clean-Up Initiative

The 1st Hirst Scout Group demonstrated extraordinary community spirit last Saturday as they conducted an ambitious litter collection event in the local area. The initiative brought together approximately 20 participants, including young members from the Beavers, Cubs, and Scouts divisions, alongside parents and Scout Leaders.
Their collective efforts yielded remarkable results, with the team gathering an impressive 15 bags of waste materials. Among the collected items were various abandoned bicycle and scooter components that had been improperly discarded throughout the area.
The event showcased effective collaboration between community organisations, with Ashington Town Council providing essential litter collection equipment to support the initiative. Northumberland County Council also played a vital role by managing the removal and proper disposal of all collected waste materials.
Susan Black, Group Lead Volunteer, expressed her pride in the participants' dedication: "We're incredibly proud of everyone who participated and showed such commitment to improving our environment. It's wonderful to see our young people taking practical action to care for their community!"
This event represents one of many initiatives by local Scout groups focused on environmental stewardship and community service, providing valuable hands-on learning experiences for young participants while making a tangible difference in their community.
