Ashington Town Council Awards Vital Funding for Equipment to Community Woodlands Parkrun

Ashington Town Council has awarded a small grant of £500 to the Ashington Community Woodlands Parkrun, helping the popular weekly fitness event enhance its safety measures and improve the experience for participants and volunteers alike.
The grant was officially presented by Civic Head, Councillor Caroline Ball, who expressed her delight at supporting such a valuable community initiative.
"The Ashington Community Woodlands Parkrun has become an important fixture in our town's calendar, promoting health, wellbeing, and community spirit," said Cllr Ball. "We're pleased to provide this funding for essential equipment that will ensure the event continues to thrive and operate safely."
The funds will be used to purchase professional posts and chains to replace damaged traffic cones currently marking the finish area, a quad pack of walkie-talkies to improve marshal communications during emergencies, and large golf-style umbrellas to protect volunteers during adverse weather conditions.
The communication equipment will significantly enhance safety protocols, reducing response times during medical emergencies and improving coordination when deploying the defibrillator if needed.
The Friends of Ashington Community Woods Group have also offered storage facilities for the new equipment, ensuring it remains secure between events.
Ashington Community Woods Park Run takes place every Saturday morning and welcomes participants of all abilities, from experienced runners to families with children and those who prefer to walk the 5km course.
