Remscheid – April 1985  Were You There?

At the end of the Miners strike, in March 1985, 35 young people from the old Wansbeck and Blyth Valley Council areas were invited to take a holiday in the City of Remscheid, in Germany.

The youngsters stayed with families in Remscheid and spent an enjoyable week seeing the sights and attending organised activities.

If you were there the Ashington & Newbiggin by the Sea Town Twinning Association would like to hear from you!  Please contact Mr Bill Gale on tel; 07706 820 099 or email; johnsongale1973@phonecoop.coop

The links between Ashington, Newbiggin by the Sea and the City of Remscheid continue to this day and it is one of the longest Town Twinning arrangements, commencing in 1952.  The Town Council’s of Ashington and Newbiggin by the Sea reaffirmed those links in 2015 with the signing of a new charter with the City of Remscheid.
