The Full Council meeting will be taking place on the 26th of September 2023 at 6pm.
This will be held within the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 65 Station Road, Ashington, NE63 8RX.

Ashington Town Council prepared and gave notice of a casual vacancy yesterday. A casual vacancy is a vacant seat that occurs during the council term, therefore not in the usual all-out elections that happen every four years. If a casual vacancy arises in Ashington Town Council, there is a process, dictated by law, to declare the vacancy. What follows is determined by law and the democratic process.

NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN Pursuant to section 87(2)(b) of the Local Government Act 1972, that Michelle Brannigan, formerly a Member of Ashington Town Council, has ceased to be a Member of the Council, due to her resignation, and that a vacancy now exists in the office of Councillor for the Town.
If, within 14 days (*) after the date of this notice (i.e. no later than Wednesday 9th August 2023), a request for an election to fill the vacancy is made to The Returning Officer, Elections Office, Northumberland County Council, County Hall, Morpeth, NE61 2EF by TEN electors for the Haydon (Ward), an election will be held to fill the vacancy, otherwise the vacancy will be filled by co-option. The Annual Meeting of the Council was held last night, and the Council elected members to specific roles.
Elected as follows: Business Chair - Cllr Mark Purvis. Vice Business Chair - Cllr Marjorie Chambers. Civic Head - Cllr Victor Bridges. Deputy Civic Head - Cllr Vicki Brown. Leader - Cllr John Tully. Deputy Leader - Cllr Louis Brown.

On behalf of Ashington Town Council, Chair, Cllr Mark Purvis would like to take the opportunity to wish the wonderful folk of Ashington a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
Like 2020, 2021 has brought with it many challenges. Residents, businesses, and organisations are doing everything they can to overcome the issues faced by COVID-19, and more recently storm Arwen, as we strive to come out stronger.

Woodhorn Museum has successfully raised the funding it needs to create a new fully accessible play area.

Five new Christmas lighting features, designed by Ashington children, will light up the town in the next few days as part of the Christmas lighting display.

Ashington’s Christmas Lights and Tree will be installed in the town centre in the next two weeks. However, due to continuing Covid-19 concerns a decision has been taken to cancel this year’s Christmas Lights Switch-On event.
