April is Stress Awareness Month, a campaign aimed at raising awareness of stress on our wellbeing, ways to reduce stress and improve mental health.    

Residents and organisations across Ashington have come together over last week to participate in this year’s Great British Spring Clean campaign.

What a historic and emotional day it was as I witnessed the Royal Navy officially hand over the ship’s bell and other artefacts from HMS Blyth to Blyth Town Council.

Spring has arrived and Ashington Town Council is continuing to follow Northumberland Wildlife’s ”Action for Insects” plan! Today we have instructions on how to create your very own wildflower patch or even a mini wildflower meadow.

Northumberland County Council will be submitting an application for prior approval to demolish the buildings at Wansbeck Square in Ashington. This is the first step in redeveloping the site, with further plans still being finalised and coordination with Network Rail and Northern Powergrid ongoing.

As part of the prior approval application process, NCC has provided the required Site Notice indicating a proposed demolition start date of 1st July 2024. These notices will be posted around Wansbeck Square in the next couple of days. However, the actual demolition date may change depending on the approval timeline, particularly any requirements from Network Rail and Northern Powergrid.

With spring just around the corner, Ashington Town Council is launching an exciting new “Action for Insects” plan!

As spring approaches, Ashington Town Council is taking steps to protect and support the insect populations that are vital to the local ecosystem.

The Town Council previously announced the very sad passing away of Councillor Vicki Brown. This has created a vacancy for a Councillor in College Ward, and following Vicki’s funeral yesterday the vacancy is now officially declared.

As part of our commitment to creating more insect-friendly spaces in Ashington, today’s activity is all about providing homes for nature’s pest controllers - bats!
