Ashington Town Council’s Climate Change and Environment Committee has taken a significant step forward in its mission to address environmental challenges by welcoming representatives from local community groups to join as committee members.
The inaugural meeting, chaired by Councillor Paul Wright, brought together environmental advocates from across Ashington to establish a collaborative approach to tackling climate issues.
“I am very grateful to everyone for your time, enthusiasm, and engagement – and I am very excited to see what we can develop with your help to move the Council and the town forwards on these issues!” said Cllr Wright. He added, “It is clear we have the right people in the room to make meaningful progress on our environmental goals.”

Ashington Town Council has approved the final allocation of small grants for the 2024-25 financial year, supporting a diverse range of community organisations and clubs that serve local residents. The Council has awarded grants totaling £3,665 to eight community groups, each providing valuable services to Ashington residents across sports, wellbeing, mental health, and social activities.
Councillor Lynne Grimshaw, Chair of the Finance and General Services Committee, said, ”We’re delighted to support these wonderful community organisations in their important work. These grants, while modest in size, will help sustain vital services that improve the physical and mental wellbeing of Ashington residents of all ages.”
