A Moment of Reflection on the Eve of the Funeral of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II
11 September 2022
On Saturday 10th September, at 10:00am, The Accession Council commenced the official and very historical undertaking of declaring our new King, His Majesty King Charles III, following the death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, only days before.
Ashington Town Council did raise the Union Flag to full mast at 11:00am on Saturday to mark the National Proclamation, where it remained until after the Local Proclamation by the High Sheriff of Northumberland at 1:00pm on Sunday. The flag will remain at half-mast until the day after the funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II.
The High Sheriff of Northumberland read out the official proclamation of the new sovereign, HM King Charles III, moments ago (Sunday 11th September at 1:00pm). The Proclamation was made by James Royds, accompanied by the Lord Lieutenant of Northumberland.
“”Although we continue to mourn the sad death of HM Queen Elizabeth II, it is important that we welcome the accession of King Charles III to the throne. On behalf of the people of Ashington, we are proud to confirm HM King Charles III as our new monarch and we embrace this exceptionally significant time in our nation’s history. The people of Ashington join those of Northumberland and beyond in celebrating the accession of our new King and send him Ashington’s best wishes for a long and successful reign.”
